Product Info

Newly updated for a limited time, and in limited numbers, Rob Machado's new Sunday is designed for slow mornings on the weekend at home after pancakes and coffee. It's the ultimate cruiser, catching and paddling easily, and most importantly surfing quickly down the line towards the shoulder for long wraps back to the pocket.

Crafted using Thunderbolt Technology, this all new and limited edition of the Sunday has a separate weight and flex characteristic from my previous Sunday design in Helium. After testing this design personally with this new build recipe, Rob decided it was something that should be released to the public in limited numbers for fans of the Sunday who wan to experiment with a new feel in one of their favorite shapes.

Additional Info

"Sunday mornings for me start later than most mornings. It’s really a family day.... We wake up, take it slow.... Might be a surf involved before breakfast with my daughter or my son, but we’re never in a hurry to get there. We usually go to the farmer’s market before noon and stock up on produce. In the afternoon I’ll ride my bicycle down to Cardiff reef and maybe paddle out the 7-foot Sunday for a cruise. Then before sunset I’ll ride the 5’6 at Seaside if its good. My favorite thing about the Sunday is how it occupies both sides of the spectrum. I ride both the 5’6 and the 7’0. That covers a lot of territory. The 5’6 is about six liters more volume than I’d normally ride in a shortboard. And that’s the most important thing - size up your Sunday. Don’t be shy. Ride more volume and relax. If you want to draw out turns and flow, ride it as a single fin. You can set it up as a twin fin if you want to liven it up. It’s a win both ways. Sunday is always fun." —Rob Machado

Wave Type
Another best-selling Machado mid-length due to its versatility, this board is cruisey and fun. It works well in just about any conditions - size up for weaker conditions, and ride your typical size when the waves get good. Depending on what size you ride, it can be put in quality surf. Recommended in 1-4' surf, skewing towards poor to average conditions.

Board Features
A quintessential Rob Machado design, featuring a performance-oriented outline with double concave in the back half of the board and a gentle single concave running in the front half of the board. Rob will ride both the 5'6" and 7'0" depending on the waves, showing the true range of this shape.

Thunderbolt Technology

Thunderbolt Technology utilizes advanced materials and technology to decrease weight while enhancing performance, flex characteristics, board control, and durability. Mass-produced epoxy boards are corky and stiff. While light and durable, they simply don’t ride well. But Thunderbolt’s hand-built boards take superior epoxy materials to an entirely different level. These boards provide the feel and sensitivity of a good poly board but deliver performance far beyond traditional epoxy pop-out constructions. Indeed, those who ride these high-tech epoxy boards claim they actually feel better than polyurethane. Thunderbolt boards are 100% hand layups. They begin with an EPS foam core with multi-component carbon fiber stringer systems that produce engineered flex and twist for a more lively, responsive performance. Proprietary designs employing internal carbon fiber components are then arrayed in the deck and bottom of the deck for precise flex control and strength. The core shield PVC provides flexible protection to increase strength and durability without compromising the flex and twist characteristics built into the blank. With ample carbon fiber and fiberglass in the deck, bottom, and rails, these boards both outperform and outlast traditional PU boards and other epoxy designs.
