Neoprene and Liners

The Isurus wetsuit line separates itself from its competitors with its strategic usage of Yamamoto #40 and #39 neoprene. Yamamoto #40 neoprene is known for its stretch characteristics. The #40 neoprene is used in the arms, shoulders, and upper torso of the Isurus line to assist in ease of paddling and movement. For the lower portion of the suit, Isurus uses Yamamoto #39 neoprene. A remarkable feature of Yamamoto eco-limestone neoprene is that it only absorbs 2% of water. This assists in keeping the suit lighter and more comfortable than a water-logged suit.

Isurus uses a titanium-lined Z- Fleece liner in their wetsuits that is both strong and incredibly warm. For the Ti Alpha line, the Z-Fleece covers 80% of the wetsuit for maximum warmth when you need it the most. For the Ti Evade, the liner covers the chest down to the knee area on the front and back of the suit.

Seams and Stitching

The Ti Alpha and Ti Evade feature glued and blind-stitched external seams. The Ti Alpha line was created for the harshest conditions featuring complete internal taping throughout the suit. The Ti Evade line has taping throughout the torso and legs just like the TI Alpha line but does not have taping in the arms of the suit. This helps keep the arms more flexible and allows for easier paddling. The arms and upper chest of the Ti Evade utilize spot taping in high-stress areas that will help increase the longevity and durability of the suit.

Fit and Cut

Isurus wetsuits are cut a tad short compared to some of its competitors. The Ti Alpha and Ti Evade will feel stiff and restrictive during fitting. While testing the Ti Evade 4/3, I noticed that after a few sessions, the suit relaxed and became extremely comfortable. Keep this in mind when fitting any of the Isurus wetsuits; the suit will form fit as you wear it, so make sure to pick a good snug fit.

Performance

Isurus wetsuits are designed to perform at a high level. Drawing from sports outside of surfing, the Isurus line focuses on compression and its benefits on athletic performance. Compression has been scientifically proven to improve blood flow which results in an accelerated recovery time. The suit noticeably feels compressive in the legs and arms but remains flexible in the shoulder area with the help of its arms-up design.

Isurus’s wetsuit line was created with the arms extended up overhead. This subtle design tweak allows for greater mobility of the arms and shoulders. During testing, I found the suit to be extremely comfortable during paddling. Another feature of the suit that I noticed was the weight of the suit during a session. It remained lighter than most suits due to the closed-cell construction of the Yamamoto neoprene.

Furthermore, the Ti Alpha and Ti Evade incorporate a Koregulator panel in the low back/kidney area. The kidney’s purpose is to filter blood which then circulates throughout the body down to the fingertips and toes. When the kidneys are kept warm, the body experiences optimal circulation. The combination of the compression fit and the Koregulator offers premium performance and warmth in the Isurus wetsuits.
