Cleanline Surf Grom Day 2024

Cleanline Surf Grom Day 2024

Cleanline Surf’s annual Grom Day was nothing short of a success. With upwards of 60 youth shredders, 2024 brought one of the best turnouts we have had in the past 9 years of facilitating this community event. Our Seaside Shop manager, Yas, coordinates the free surf day and she does an excellent job of creating a safe, inclusive, and fun learning environment.

Grom Day started back in 2015 as the original brainchild of Tony, a longtime local surf instructor. Tony teamed up with Cleanline Surf’s owner Josh, as a way to give back to the community. Josh has been surfing almost his whole life and is eager to share the experience and stoke with the next generation of surfers.

Our online rental program made it easy for parents to reserve gear for their kids in advance, helping keep the day flowing without any hiccups. The day started with a 2-3ft swell and warm weather—perfect conditions for learning to surf gentle whitewater waves. After some on-the-beach instructions and a quick safety talk, Cleanline’s employees and local team riders were able to get the participants surfing waves within a few tries.

Being able to witness the groms catching their first wave is a special experience. The amount of joy and stoke makes it unforgettable. Sharing the passion of surfing with others is something Cleanline strives to do. This event is not only about introducing the kids to surfing but it is also about introducing them to new friends. With a mixture of local kids and a few vacationing families, Grom Day is a perfect way to connect with others for both parents and participants alike.

Stoked to be a part of so many first waves and first memories in the water with the grommets this year! I saw a select few little rippers who will be tearing apart waves before we know it.”

After everyone got a chance to get out and surf, the BBQ was ready to go! With some big appetites and delicious food, the rest of the day was a breeze. At the end of the event, there was loads of swag to give out and a raffle for a lucky grom. A Catch Surf soft top was part of the grand prize raffle, and the winner was given a brand-new surfboard!

It is an honor to introduce surfing to the youth, and we’re appreciative of Josh, Tony, Yas, and all of the volunteers for making this day possible. Also, a big shout out to the Surfrider Foundation for supporting the event.

Till next year, see ya out in the water.

James

James grew up as a snowboarder in the Wasatch Mountain range, with an admiration of the sea. After catching his first wave and soaking up the sea breeze, he gained an eternal love for surfing. Nowadays, he lives to ride sideways and is stoked to share his passions with others while writing blogs and working on the Customer Service team. If you don’t see him at the surf break, he’ll be pumping a bowl or ripping down a mountain.
