The Firewire Seaside Helium Volcanic Repreve Surfboard is a revolutionized design from the Go Fish and offers more control with a less skatey feel. Still super fun nonetheless and meant to be ridden as a hi-performance surfboard in a range of conditions, this fish is known for catching small waves and paddles well thanks to the width up front. The Firewire Seaside is meant to be ridden as a quad.
This is the new Volcanic Tech, which is a Basalt Lamination built around a Helium inner construction. Basalt has been around for years as a glass fiber alternative for extra strength and heat resistance in the Aerospace industry. This is NOT carbon although has similar characteristics in that it is much stronger than glass fiber yet is also a slightly better eco alternative.

Product Construction
Helium Core Technology
A stringerless EPS core with flex controlled at the rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood - this construction is light and lively underfoot, and excellent at generating speed in everyday waves.
Volcanic Repreve Lamination
As the world's leading recycled fiber made from ocean-bound plastic bottles, Repreve is a sustainable innovation enabling Firewire to build strength and flex control into each Volcanic shape while simultaneously preventing plastic bottles from entering our ocean playground.

Wave Type
An evolution of the Go Fish, the Seaside is built to excel in small and weak waves. Think of this shape for ripping, while the Go Fish stays cruisey and fun. Recommended in 1-5’ surf, skewing towards poor/flat conditions.
Board Features
One of Firewire's most popular outlines, this shape is inviting, fun and forgiving, with plenty of paddle power. Updated from the Go Fish, it has less area in the tail, narrowed tops of the swallow, creating more curve and a narrowed nose.
"Just evolving the Go Fish to something new, really. The Go Fish goes fast and feels skatey and loose and I love it, and riding it for a couple years made me want to feel more high performance - more carves, tighter turns. So the Seaside is about refining… less area in the tail, narrowing the tips of the swallow, creating more curve and narrowing the nose. All elements for ripping while the Go Fish stays cruisey and fun.
The Firewire Seaside Helium Surfboard is a quad only, why? I decided that if I was going to make a quad I would make a quad that’s strictly a quad ... Design the concaves and bottom contours around that. I actually redesigned the entire concave setup that I’ve been using on the Moonbeam and Go Fish, and did it with the quad setup in mind so that it all works together.
Why name this shape after my home break, Seaside? Naming surfboards might be the hardest thing to do on the plan-et [laughing]. It’s just the perfect little stick when I surf my home spot, Seaside.
Why is the Seaside built in Helium? The first one I made for Tahiti was LFT and I was riding it in 6-foot tubes. But most everyone surfs a shape like the Seaside at beach breaks and little point breaks, so we made it in Helium because it’s really light, very responsive, really flexy with a softer feel and very durable. It’s the best option for a shape like the Seaside in smaller, weaker waves, I think." —Rob Machado
Helium Core Technology
This is your ideal technology choice for generating speed in weak, everyday waves. The Firewire Helium technology is a stringerless 1.0 lb EPS foam core with flex controlled with rails made from Paulownia and Balsa wood, running the complete length from nose to tail, combined with a 3mm proprietary aerospace composite deck skin.
The wood rails enable a lively flex in the rail that gives a loaded-up, spring-back feeling, and the deck skins make your board feel this way for a long time.
Helium deck skins are beneficial for both durability and performance - and have a memory that will rebound back to form after being compressed, making it very responsive in addition to keeping your deck surface pristine for many years.
Helium Performance
Ideal for generating speed in weak, everyday waves - this is your choice if you want unmatched response, lightweight and durability. Helium has a lively, responsive flex underfoot, and surfs quickly and explosively when creating tight angles.

Helium Lamination Compatibility
Helium cores are paired with fiberglass lamination, Volcanic lamination, Timbertek lamination, or Artificial Wave Technology fiberglass lamination.
Volcanic Lamination Technology
Volcanic lamination technology is made from basalt, a natural element that comes from volcanic rocks. These volcanic rocks are crushed, melted down and then extruded into woven fibers that make up the basalt cloth Firewire uses in this lamination technology. This process requires the basalt rock to get to about 1,500 degrees Celsius (2,730 degrees Fahrenheit.)
The cloth has the same functional characteristics to carbon, making it a sustainable alternative to carbon, which is very bad for the environment. While basalt fiber has been around for decades, it's relatively new to fiber reinforced polymers (FRPs) and structural composites used for surfboard manufacturing. It has a similar chemical composition to glass fiber, but better strength characteristics.
Volcanic Performance
Firewire's most durable construction with elevated response. This sustainable alternative to carbon is stronger than carbon and can also withstand higher temperatures than carbon, making it a top choice for the aerospace industry in the manufacturing of rockets and jet engines. It also has higher elasticity than traditional carbon, allowing the board to have more flex for a natural feel underfoot.
Volcanic Construction
The Firewire Volcanic lamination schedule is double 4 oz basalt cloth on the deck, and single 4 oz basalt cloth on the bottom.
Volcanic Core Compatibility
Volcanic lamination is paired with either I-Bolic cores or Helium cores.
