The Pyzel Power Tiger Surfboard is designed as a refined version of the Red Tiger, optimized for bigger, more powerful waves. With a narrower tail and nose, the Power Tiger provides improved control at high speeds and in tight turns, while its increased outline curve enhances responsiveness. Thinner rails allow for better handling in barrels and powerful waves, and the adjusted bottom rocker adds looseness and rail engagement during turns. Recommended for when the Red Tiger feels too small.

Product Construction
Polyurethane/Polyester Resin (PU/PE)
A board built in PU/PE means that Pyzel uses a Polyurethane foam blank and they glass it with Polyester resin. This is how the majority of today’s surfboards are built. It is how Pyzel has been making boards for years, and these materials let them make a very stable, strong, consistent, and high-performance board that has the feel that most people are used to.
PU foam is closed celled, meaning it won’t easily soak in water if you ding your board, and that also means that it doesn’t absorb too much resin when getting glassed, keeping your board light. Many surfers prefer the feel of PU/PE boards because that is what they have ridden all their lives, and because they feel really good.
At Pyzel Surfboards, they use only the best foam blanks, highest quality fiberglass and resin, and hire the best craftsmen in the industry. The result is light, tight and bright high performance, reasonable priced boards that look beautiful and work great. Below are the glassing options they offer for PU boards.
Additional Info
Early this year, John John Florence approached Pyzel, requesting a board that would fit between the Red Tiger and his Ghost in terms of wave size and quality. John had previously collaborated with Pyzel to develop the Red Tiger for performance surfing in smaller, weaker waves, showcasing impressive results on that board. The Power Tiger is a refined version of the Red Tiger, with design changes made to handle bigger, more powerful waves.
The Red Tiger remains John's choice for slower, head-high and below waves, while the Power Tiger excels as the surf increases in size and power. The primary difference lies in the outline, where both the nose and tail were pulled in to create more curve, significantly impacting how the Power Tiger surfs.
The narrower tail provides better hold at speed, even during hard turns, and the additional curve through the tail increases looseness in tighter pockets. The pulled-in nose allows the board to fit seamlessly into the curve of hollow, more "cupped out" waves without catching. This overall outline curve enhances responsiveness and makes it easier to hit the lip at speed.
Additionally, Pyzel made subtle adjustments by thinning out the rails, allowing for better control in powerful waves without excessive pushback. The thinner rails also improve performance in barrels and during large carves. Pyzel also modified the bottom rocker, adding ⅛" of curve in the last 18" of the tail, which enhances looseness, helps with rail engagement at speed, and improves hold through turns.
Pyzel recommends riding the Power Tiger when the Red Tiger feels too small for the waves being surfed, at the same length but with slightly less volume, or opting for an inch longer and narrower. The stock dimensions of the Power Tiger are about ¼" narrower and 1/16" thinner than the Red Tiger in the same lengths.
